Amongst all the maniacal chaos of fashion week, we at What?! always embrace a wander around the designer galleries at Somerset House. It’s a chance for the fashion world to get up close and personal with the pieces, along with being introduced to a few welcome surprises; this time in the shape of the Mawi Bag.
Renowned for their stand out, vibrant and extremely statement jewellery; we were happy to see that for SS13 the brand has branched out into soft accessories that pack just as strong a punch as their bling.
The line of clutches remain true to Mawi’s identity of creating signature statement pieces with a mix of traditional influences and luxurious materials. Electric neon and the sparkling jewels are what create this collection, and what originally drew our eye over to these in Somerset House. Glitter, architectural jewels and perspex spikes adorn several of the clutches within the collection, adding a tougher edge to the otherwise feminine collection.
Black sequined bags are sharply contrasted by electric pink jewels complete with a fluorescent orange zip, whilst a deep emerald green clutch is completed by architectural gold fixtures and more pink perspex detailing. The collection reigns in it’s colour clash and zaniness to create bold yet controlled pieces that further implement emulations of the brand’s jewllery components, strengthening the integral thread between the entire brand’s pieces.
Mawi is now set to celebrate it’s tenth year in the industry, and what better than with these bags that are a very promising start into Mawi’s expansion, and surely the must have accessory for SS13.
